Apple recently launched the iPhone 17 series at their annual “Awe Dropping” event on September 9, 2025. The new surprise in the series is the iPhone Air. This smartphone is considered the thinnest and lightest iPhone to date. But currently, a more talked-about personality than the iPhone Air is Abidur Chowdhury.

Who Is Abidur Chowdhury?

Abidur Chowdhury is an industrial designer working at Apple. He is based in San Francisco, USA, but was originally born in London to Bangladeshi parents. He graduated in Product Design from Loughborough University. His career began with internships at Cambridge Consultants and Curventa. He then worked as a professional designer at Layer Design’s London office. In 2018–19, he started his own consultancy called “Abidur Chowdhury Design,” through which he worked with various startups and brands, establishing his identity.

What Makes the iPhone Air So Special?

He has been working at Apple since 2019. He is credited with several innovative product designs. He played a significant role in the iPhone Air project. The iPhone Air is extremely thin, with a thickness of only 5.6 mm. Its body is made using titanium and ceramic shield glass, making it both durable and aesthetically appealing. It includes advanced technological features like the A19 Pro chip, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and the latest ProMotion display. Many have said that holding it makes you feel like “this isn’t just a phone, it feels like a piece of the future.”

While introducing the iPhone Air at the Awe Dropping event, Abidur said that the phone feels like a “piece of the future and that his design presents a “paradox you have to hold to believe.” His presentation, with such words, brought his naturally charismatic personality to life in the audience’s minds.

Usually, only engineers or marketing heads are invited to speak for big brands. But Apple didn’t do that. They invited Abidur Chowdhury, a special designer, to present the iPhone Air on stage. This made a significant impact in the global media and tech world.

People have started calling him the “Steve Jobs of the future.” In a world-renowned, strategic, and investor-driven company like Apple, a young designer standing on stage and presenting the beauty and emotion of a phone is not something easily forgotten. His design creates the experience of “future feels real,” so connecting him with such prestige is not misplaced.

Along with the iPhone Air, Apple also launched the new iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The iPhone 17 features enhanced photographic capabilities and a ProMotion display. The Pro models include new winter-optimized 8x zoom, vapor-chamber cooling, and embody the spirit of advanced phone manufacturing. Apple Watch Series 11 (with 5G), Ultra 3 (with satellite connectivity), SE 3, and AirPods Pro 3 (with real-time translation and heart rate sensor) were also introduced at the same time, further expanding Apple’s vision in health, lifestyle, and technology.

In today’s technological era, to create a phone that is as thin as a sheet of paper yet evokes a futuristic feeling and to have it designed by Abidur Chowdhury is truly remarkable. That’s why many believe he is the “heir to Steve Jobs.”

In short, the iPhone Air is not just a phone, but a fusion of innovation and artistic experience. And the person shaping that experience is Abidur Chowdhury, who is sketching the new face of Apple from the resonance of the future. Therefore, calling him the “Steve Jobs of the future” is not just praise, but can be rightfully acknowledged.
