And in such cases, we often look for a zero-balance account that not only provides the benefit of no minimum balance requirement but also essential services like digital banking, debit card, credit card, cashback, reward points, and insurance cover.
However, with so many banks available, finding a good and reliable zero-balance account isn’t easy. So today, I will tell you about Axis Bank’s zero-balance savings/salary accounts, which fulfill all your banking needs. Axis Bank offers three different categories of zero-balance accounts.
Table of Contents
The first one is!
Axis Basic Savings Account.
The Axis Basic Savings Account is part of the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana scheme. Under this scheme, the government aims to target those with limited or no access to banking. That’s why it has mandated all banks to provide a basic savings account option with no unnecessary charges. This encourages people to open a bank account and take steps toward passive income and long-term financial stability.
But there are a few conditions to open an Axis Basic Savings Account:
- The applicant must be a resident of India.
- They must not already hold a savings account with Axis Bank.
- If they have an existing Axis account, it must be closed before opening this one.
- Once the Basic Savings Account is opened, no other account can be opened with Axis Bank.
Documents required:
- Two passport-sized photographs
- Address proof
- Identity proof (Passport / Aadhaar Card / Driving Licence / Voter ID Card / NREGA Job Card / Letter from National Population Registry confirming name and address)
- Only one document is needed if the ID includes the address (e.g., Passport or Aadhaar).
Fees and Charges:
- No fees or charges for the Axis Basic Savings Account. Any applicable charges will be disclosed beforehand.
- Semi-Urban / Rural: Maintain an average monthly balance of ₹10,000 or FD of ₹50,000 (12 months). Failure to maintain the balance results in ₹6 per ₹100 shortfall, max ₹300.
- Metro / Urban: No minimum balance requirement.
- Debit Card: Issuance fee ₹300 + GST, Annual fee ₹300 + GST
- If the account is closed within 14 days, there is no charge. Between 14 days and 1 year, ₹500 closing fee. There is no fee after 1 year.
- ATM withdrawal limit: ₹50,000 per day. ATM fee: ₹21 per transaction after the free limit.
You need to visit a branch to open this account. But if you’re looking for convenience—an account that opens instantly from your phone and completes KYC at home.
Next!
Axis Bank Salary Account.
This category is for those receiving their salary through Axis Bank. It includes several accounts: Burgundy Salary Account, Easy Access Salary Account, Liberty Salary Account, Prestige Salary Account, Priority Salary Account, and Axis Republic Salary Account. Each of these is designed with specific features and benefits in mind.
You don’t need to visit the bank to open any of these. You can open a salary account via video call if you have a PAN card and an Aadhaar.
All of these are zero-balance accounts, which means no need to maintain a minimum balance—perfect for those exploring passive income ideas or working on how to make money online.
These accounts come with:
- Free checkbooks, demand drafts, and online money transfers
- Numerous offers, cashback deals, and restaurant discounts
- Insurance benefits
- Free airport lounge access
In simple terms, these salary accounts are designed with your needs in mind and offer great value for anyone looking to streamline their income or manage side hustles.
Amaze Zero-Balance Savings Account- Fully Digital
Then there’s the Axis Bank Amaze Account, a fully digital zero-balance savings account. Unlike typical savings accounts requiring ₹10,000 or ₹25,000 average balance, this one doesn’t require much maintenance. But here’s where it gets interesting: to unlock all the benefits of the Amaze account, a subscription fee is required—monthly or yearly. So, technically, it’s not entirely free.
You can choose from two plans: ₹200 per month or ₹2200 per year.
Benefits after subscription include:
- Free Amazon Prime membership worth ₹1499
- Swiggy One Lite subscription worth ₹99/month
- Cashback worth ₹200/month if you spend ₹800 or more
- 5% cash back on select spends at Zomato, BookMyShow, Myntra, Uber, Blinkit
- 5% cashback using the Axis Amaze card, capped at ₹250/month
So, if you regularly spend on platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, Uber, etc., you can earn back more than ₹200/month, making it a brilliant extra money opportunity.
You also get unlimited ATM withdrawals from any bank and insurance benefits.
On paper, even if you pay ₹2200 annually, the benefits can easily be worth ₹5000–₹6000—a fair deal if you’re consistent with your expenses and looking to maximize returns.
From personal experience, I’ve seen this account regularly offer temporary deals like 25% off on Myntra, buy-one-get-one on BookMyShow, and 10% off on Flipkart and Amazon.
This account comes with an online rewards debit card (a physical card), and the savings account earns 3% interest annually.
